Abstract:
John Irgengioro will present his PhD research on the evolving perceptions of ‘soft’ power of Russia, China and the EU among ‘young potential elites’ in Kazakhstan – students of the leading national universities. The presentation will detail an innovative theoretical framework engaging with the Strategic Narratives Theory. John will discuss his fieldwork methods and provide insights into the first key findings.
Bio:
John Irgengioro is a Ph.D fellow at the Ghent Institute of International and European Studies (GIES), Ghent University, Belgium, and currently a visiting research fellow at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, department of Media and Communication, hosted at the invitation of Dr. Natalia Chaban. He is funded on a doctoral scholarship from the Flemish Research Association (FWO). His Ph.D research focuses on the ‘soft’ power of Russia, China, and the European Union amongst ‘young potential elites’ in Kazakhstan. He previously holds an MA in Political Science from Brock University, Canada.
